Examine mechanical and quartz timepieces, disassemble them using precision tools, and inspect for worn, defective, or misaligned parts, rust, or other damage. Repair or replace defective components, such as gears, springs, jewels, crystals, and electronic parts, to restore optimal function. Fabricate or fit custom parts as needed to ensure proper assembly and performance of unique or vintage watches and clocks. Test, adjust, and regulate timepiece movements using specialized equipment to ensure accuracy and precision. Clean all internal components using ultrasonic or mechanical cleaning machines and special rinsing solutions to remove dirt, rust, and dried lubricants. Reassemble and lubricate movements, ensuring each part is properly aligned and functioning to manufacturer specifications. Maintain detailed records of repair work, parts used, and service history, and manage inventory of repair tools and spare components. Provide expert advice to clients on proper care, usage, and maintenance of their watches and clocks; may also supervise and mentor junior technicians.
